| I make pots because I believe they can enhance our lives. I think that functional pottery works beyond utility . . . when we create ritual in our lives around a handmade object- morning coffee in a favorite mug, for example- we are adding joy and meaning to our routine. To hold and use a clay pot forces us to consider things we might not ordinarily consider. We experience more fully our own senses- how does that cup look, feel, and taste? How does it make us feel; does it enhance our day? There is an intimate connection between human hands when we use pots, a shared moment that often seems increasingly absent in our lives. As a potter, I have found that my days have a wonderful sense of rhythm. I love the physicality of my studio work, the cycles of the clay, and the fact that I can be creative in almost every part of what I do. I feel a strong entrepreneurial spirit, and a sense that I am doing what I was meant to do. I hope my pots will become a special part of people’s lives. I strive to give them a sense of personality and honesty. I feel incredibly fortunate to spend my days working in clay, and through my pots, I hope to communicate and share this sense of joy and fulfillment with others. FIRING PROCESS INSPIRATION |
